Lithuania Reopens Medininkai and Šalčininkai Border Checkpoints

At 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, Lithuania reopened the Medininkai and Šalčininkai border checkpoints with Belarus, which had been closed the previous day, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reported.

The border was closed in response to the appearance of meteorological balloons flying toward Vilnius Airport.

The airport also suspended operations. Airspace over Vilnius Airport was reopened at 4:30 a.m.

This was the third incident in recent days involving balloons launched from Belarus, which led to the temporary suspension of Lithuanian airports and border crossings with Belarus.
