https://reform.news/en/latvian-local-government-deputies-banned-from-traveling-to-belarus/Latvia’s Saeima has adopted amendments to the Law on Restrictions on Activities Threatening National Security.
According to LSM, the amendments ban local government deputies from traveling to Belarus and Russia. The measure had previously been introduced for certain categories of officials and employees, as well as members of the Saeima.
The authors of the amendments justified the new measure by noting that local government officials have access to detailed information about critical infrastructure, civil defense plans, transport and logistics hubs, as well as other resources controlled by municipalities.
Today, Latvia’s Saeima also adopted a law banning citizens of Belarus and Russia from owning critical infrastructure in Latvia.
