According to Paval Latushka, deputy head of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus and head of the National Anti-Crisis Management, “any agreements with him by Western leaders bypassing Belarusian society and democratic forces will not be durable or trustworthy.” He made the statement while commenting on the telephone conversation between French President Emmanuel Macron and Aliaksandr Lukashenka.
“The person who has drawn a target on Belarus on the map through participation in another act of Russian nuclear blackmail against Belarus’ neighbors must clearly understand the consequences of his actions. He must understand that he himself will bear full responsibility for any aggressive actions and military provocations originating from Belarusian territory.
One can speak with Lukashenka only in the language of strength and warnings from a position of strength. France undoubtedly possesses such strength.
At the same time, it is necessary to understand that this is a person incapable of guaranteeing any promises, as his subjectivity is now at its lowest level in all 30-plus years of his rule. Any agreements with him by Western leaders bypassing Belarusian society and democratic forces will not be durable or trustworthy.
The precondition for any agreements and guarantees of their implementation on Belarus’ part can only be a prior resolution of the internal Belarusian crisis through полноценный dialogue between the current functioning authorities and Belarusian democratic forces and civil society.
Only a Belarus that has gone through its own version of a Round Table, systemic transformation, and overcome its internal crisis can become a полноценная party to external agreements and a guarantor of their implementation,” the politician stated.
As previously reported, French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with Aliaksandr Lukashenka earlier today. The talks took place at the initiative of the French side.
The parties discussed “regional issues and Belarus’ relations with the EU and France in particular,” Lukashenka’s press service reported.
