Belarusian customs officers have detained a Kazakh citizen found to be carrying marijuana and hashish, the State Customs Committee reported.
The truck entered Belarus from Latvia through the Hryharoushchyna border crossing. During an inspection, customs officers found a packet containing “a substance of plant origin” among the driver’s personal belongings. Another packet, hidden in the windowsill of the passport control booth, was discovered by a service dog.
A forensic genetic examination showed that the second packet also belonged to the driver. Experts identified the substances in the packets as hashish and marijuana.
Two criminal cases have been opened against the driver on charges of illegal drug trafficking and the illegal transportation of narcotic drugs across the border. He faces up to seven years in prison.
