Investigators Complete Probe Into Brutal Murder in Cherykau

The Investigative Committee has completed its investigation into a brutal murder in Cherykau. The crime occurred during the night of December 25. A woman was killed one day before her 47th birthday.

A 40-year-old local resident has been charged with the murder. According to investigators, while in a state of severe alcohol intoxication, he inflicted multiple blows on the homeowner using a kitchen knife and other objects found in the kitchen.

“Investigators established that after the murder, due to personal animosity, the suspect also desecrated the body. He posthumously inflicted multiple stab and slash wounds on the victim, after which he damaged some soft tissues and organs,” the Investigative Committee added.

During questioning, the man explained that on the evening of December 24 he came to visit the ex-wife of his cousin in order to discuss her personal problems.

“After drinking alcohol together, he began making advances toward the woman, but was rejected — this provoked aggression. After committing the crime, he attempted to cover his tracks by burning his clothes and shoes,” the Investigative Committee said.

Charges were brought under Part 2, Clause 6 of Article 139 (murder committed with exceptional cruelty) and Part 1 of Article 347 (desecration of a corpse) of the Criminal Code. The suspect had previously been convicted of theft.
