The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case over the fire on Lenina Street in Minsk. On June 28, a fire broke out in the attic of Building No. 9, spreading across an area of more than 1,000 square metres.
According to the Investigative Committee, the fire damaged and destroyed property belonging to state bodies, legal entities and private individuals, with preliminary estimates putting the losses at no less than 450,000 Belarusian roubles.
“The inspection found that the cause of the fire was a violation of fire safety requirements, including those related to the use of electrical wiring and electrical appliances,” the Investigative Committee said.
The criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 304 of the Criminal Code (“Violation of fire safety requirements resulting in major damage through negligence”). Investigative measures are underway to identify those responsible for the fire.
