Investigation Into Kardash, Accused of Espionage, Extended Until June 20

The pre-trial investigation into detained Belarusian citizen Inna Kardash in Ukraine has been extended until June 20. She is suspected of espionage.

As Radio Svaboda reported, citing informed sources, the term of the investigation has been extended for the second time. An extension of Inna Kardash’s detention was reported at the end of March. At that time, it was extended until April 20.

Under Ukrainian law, investigators are given two months to complete the investigation. The term can then be extended, but the total duration may not exceed one year.

According to Radio Svaboda, investigators have still not received the results of computer-technical and semantic-textual examinations and have not yet completed the review of materials on computer and digital storage devices seized during the search.

Kardash herself continues to complain about her health condition, lack of medical care and detention conditions. The prosecutor’s office will now review these complaints. A court has already ordered the head of the detention center to ensure Kardash’s rights are respected.

It is worth recalling that the Security Service of Ukraine and military intelligence reported Kardash’s detention on Jan. 27. The Security Service said she had cooperated with the KGB since 2015. She worked for Viktor Medvedchuk’s 112 television channel and at Interfax Ukraine.

In 2020, Belarusian special services allegedly sent Kardash to work in Ukraine. Her task was to collect information about Belarusians and Russians helping Ukraine. She was also supposed to establish contacts with employees of the Chinese embassy in Ukraine in order to collect intelligence on the activities of Chinese diplomats in Ukraine.

In 2025, she got a job at the military intelligence Coordination Center for Prisoner of War Affairs, where she collected official information by photographing documents and recording staff conversations. She allegedly passed this data to Belarus.
