The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is implementing a project in Belarus titled “Strengthening the Capacity of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus in Response to a Possible Increase in Migrant Arrivals at the Border.”
According to the State Border Committee, a meeting of a technical expert group was held as part of the project. On the Belarusian side, participants included representatives of the border service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as non-governmental organizations.
“During the event, participants discussed prospects for cooperation, and IOM experts presented a plan to analyze existing legislative and practical mechanisms for responding to migration challenges in Belarus. Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the migration management system and the role of relevant state bodies in working with various categories of migrants.
The working meeting became an important step toward developing a comprehensive, coordinated and rights-based approach to migration management and responses to emerging challenges,” the State Border Committee said.
