Human Rights Defenders Recognise Eight More People as Political Prisoners

Belarusian human rights defenders have published a statement recognising eight more people as political prisoners.

The individuals recognised as political prisoners are Dzmitry Barsukou, Ihar Hubarevich, Pavel Vakhlakou, Vitaly Novikau, Alyaksandr Sulzhyts, Siarhei Lahvinovich, Vitaly Kushnerevich and Alyaksandr Khazeeu. They are being held in custody or have been convicted for alleged interaction with “extremist formations”. Alyaksandr Khazeeu is also accused of calling for sanctions, insulting Lukashenka and slandering him.

Human rights defenders are calling for the release of the named individuals as well as all other political prisoners and for an end to repression.
