A Polish translation of “Constitution” by Hanna Yankuta has been published by Warsztaty Kultury. The translation was prepared by poet and translator Bogdan Zadura.
“I still find it hard to believe that this book is really about to appear — until I hold it in my hands, I will not fully believe it. I am very grateful to everyone who made this possible, first and foremost to Bogdan Zadura, who has been working for many years to promote Belarusian literature in Poland, to editor Joanna Bernatowicz, and to the entire team at Warsztaty Kultury,” the author wrote on social media.
A presentation of the book featuring the author and translator will take place on July 3 in Lublin at 5:30 p.m. at Grodzka 7.
The day before, on July 2, a Polish-language edition of “Search at the Museum” by Alhierd Bacharevic, also translated by Bogdan Zadura, will be presented at the same venue.
According to the book’s annotation, “Constitution” is a collection of “poetic reflections written in the margins of the fundamental document, a ‘chronicle of catastrophes’ of Belarusian everyday life. It is an attempt to formulate the questions posed by the present day and to give them verbal expression: what law is, what the world does to a person, and what a person does to the world. The stories to which the collection is devoted begin with the Big Bang, unfold through all geological eras, and converge at the point of ‘here and now’ to capture the moment we are forced to live through.”
