Foreign Ministry Advises Belarusians in Iran to Exercise Caution

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry opposes interference in Iran’s internal affairs and recommends that Belarusian citizens in the country comply with local legislation and avoid crowded places.

Belarus expressed confidence that the government and people of Iran will be able to maintain stability in the country.

“We are convinced that the Government of Iran and the Iranian people are capable of overcoming existing difficulties and maintaining stability in the country. Based on the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, Belarus categorically rejects any form of interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry advises Belarusians to take into account flight restrictions before travelling to Iran and to monitor updates from airlines and airports, and for those already in the country — to exercise caution.

“Belarusian citizens planning trips to Iran due to urgent necessity must take into account official notifications from aviation authorities (NOTAM) on restrictions on the use of airspace, airline announcements on changes to flight schedules to Iran, and information on possible changes in airport operations. For Belarusian citizens already in Iran, standard recommendations apply under complicated conditions: comply with local legislation, follow official instructions, exercise caution and avoid places of mass gatherings,” the statement said.

Protests in Iran have continued for more than two weeks amid a severe economic situation and high inflation. Hundreds of deaths have been reported. Since 8 January, the internet has been completely shut down in Iran.
