Fire Whirl Spotted in Ukraine’s Chornobyl Exclusion Zone

Four wildfire hotspots have been recorded in Ukraine’s Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. The radiation situation remains under control, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management reports.

Radiation levels are being monitored at 39 stations of the automated radiation monitoring system.

“No exceedances of the control levels for the gamma radiation equivalent dose rate have been recorded. Fluctuations in readings at all monitoring posts remain within the normal range for each observation point,” the agency said.

The wildfires are not affecting the radiation situation in Ukraine or neighboring countries, the agency said.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service released video footage of a fire whirl in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.
