Exercises to Test New Intelligence-Gathering Methods Underway in Western Belarus

Tactical and special exercises involving intelligence, electronic warfare, firepower and air defense forces and assets of the Western Operational Command are being held in the Hrodna and Brest regions on Aug. 11-13, the Defense Ministry reports.

The exercises are testing the command and control of intelligence, electronic warfare, firepower and air defense forces and assets. The focus is on automating command and control processes amid active counteraction by unmanned aircraft. Field tests of radar intelligence stations are also being conducted.

«The main objective of the exercise is to improve new methods of conducting intelligence. Tactical techniques and methods of firepower are being improved every day. Therefore, we are testing new developments in practice.

We are focusing primarily on integrating the forces and assets of all types of intelligence, unmanned aircraft and electronic warfare. As a result, the time needed to strike a target is reduced to a minimum», said Chief of Staff and First Deputy Commander of the Western Operational Command, Major General Aliaksandr Laurenau.

The exercise confirmed the importance of automating processes and using artificial intelligence, Laurenau stressed.

«The deployed command and control system fully meets modern requirements and makes it possible to effectively manage all forces and assets involved», he said.
