Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet Pavel Latushka and Coordination Council Speaker Artsiom Brukhan met with Estonian Foreign Ministry Special Representative for Relations with the Democratic Forces of Belarus Karmen Laus.
The parties discussed efforts to hold representatives of the Lukashenka regime accountable before the International Criminal Court and the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, the results of the Coordination Council elections, measures to increase sanctions pressure on the regime, and the development of relations between the Belarusian democratic forces and Ukraine.
As the press service of the United Transitional Cabinet reported, the participants also discussed the European Union’s position on Belarus and the importance of seeking systemic rather than cosmetic changes in the regime’s domestic repressive policies through the use of a roundtable mechanism. They also reviewed Estonia’s support for the International Humanitarian Fund and prospects for the release of political prisoners.
The Estonian Foreign Ministry representative said that the country’s position toward the Lukashenka regime remains unchanged because the regime has not altered its domestic repressive policies or its aggressive actions abroad. Latushka thanked Karmen Laus for Estonia’s consistent support for democratic change in Belarus.
