The Emergencies Ministry has summarized the impact of the thunderstorm front that swept across Belarus overnight. Wind gusts reached up to 29 meters per second.
According to the ministry, a child born in 2018 was injured. During the night, a tree fell onto a tourist cabin at a campsite near the village of Korbuzi in the Vileyka district.
Damage was recorded in 57 settlements across the country. The Homiel Region was the hardest hit, with 27 affected settlements.
“In the Vitsyebsk Region, the roofs of 12 residential houses, six agricultural buildings and nine outbuildings were damaged; in the Hrodna Region, the roofs of 44 residential houses were damaged; and in the Minsk Region, the roofs of seven residential houses and five outbuildings were damaged,” the Emergencies Ministry said.
Across the country, 280 cases of fallen trees were recorded. Fourteen vehicles were damaged.
Fallen trees on railway tracks caused delays to two trains in the Maladzyechna district of the Minsk Region. Temporary power outages were also reported in settlements across the country. Emergency repair crews are working to restore electricity supply.
Windthrow damage was also recorded in forests.
“Among the hardest-hit forestry enterprises are the Zhlobin Forestry Enterprise and the Vileyka Experimental Forestry Enterprise. At this stage, preliminary estimates indicate that about 200 hectares and 150 hectares of forest, respectively, will require clear sanitary logging,” the Forestry Ministry’s press service said.
Windthrow damage was also reported in the Svietlahorsk and Vasilevichy forestry enterprises.
