Domestic demand was the main factor behind the acceleration of Belarus’s GDP growth in May, according to the weekly economic review of member states published by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).
“In January-May 2026, GDP increased by 0.9% year-on-year, compared with 0.2% year-on-year in January-April. The main support for the economy came from domestic demand,” the review said.
EDB analysts noted that retail trade growth accelerated from 6.2% to 7.1%, while fixed capital investment returned to growth.
“This was facilitated by a recovery in capital construction volumes. Amid strong consumer demand and recovering investment activity, we forecast Belarus’s GDP growth at 1.3% in 2026,” the EDB added.
