EDB Names Conditions for Accelerating Belarus’s GDP Growth

The Eurasian Development Bank expects Belarus’s GDP to continue growing in the second quarter. Belarus’s economy returned to growth in January–April, with GDP increasing by 0.2%. Previously, it had declined in the first quarter.

“Rising consumer activity, recovering investment and improved dynamics in construction are creating conditions for accelerated GDP growth in the second quarter of 2026”, the bank said in its weekly review of the economies of its member states.

According to EDB experts, industry remains a constraining factor, with output continuing to decline.

“Consumer demand provided the main support, with retail turnover rising by 6.2% year on year. The investment situation is gradually improving. The decline in construction work slowed to 2.8% year on year in January–April from 4.2% year on year in January–March. Fixed capital investment decreased by 0.6% year on year after a decline of 3.0% year on year, supported by a 6.7% year-on-year increase in investment in equipment”, the EDB added.
