Drone Crashes On Romanian Territory

A drone entered Romanian airspace and crashed overnight during a Russian attack on Ukraine. Romania’s Ministry of National Defence reported this.

According to the ministry, radars detected a group of targets near the border with Ukraine, north of Tulcea, overnight. Two Spanish Air Force F-18 fighter jets and a Romanian IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter were scrambled to monitor them.

At 3:21 a.m., a drone was detected entering Romanian airspace 13 km east of Galați.

At 3:24 a.m., the crew of the Romanian helicopter saw the drone crash 4 km from the settlement of Grindu in an uninhabited area. The impact caused a fire, which went out on its own. Grindu is located on the banks of the Danube, near its confluence with the Prut River, where the borders of Ukraine, Moldova and Romania meet.

A search team was sent to the crash site.

A public alert was issued from 3:20 a.m. to 3:52 a.m.
