Detentions Continue at Zrobim Architects Office

Detentions continued on April 10 at the Minsk office of the architectural studio Zrobim architects. According to Zerkalo, employees who were not present during the first visit by security forces the day before were called into the office.

“They are detaining everyone who was not at their workplaces yesterday. Today, everyone was told to come to the office,” a source told the outlet. It is not known who gave the order.

According to the source, investigative actions both yesterday and today were carried out by officers of the Financial Investigations Department of the State Control Committee.

Most of the approximately 50 employees detained yesterday have since been released, the source said. According to preliminary information, co-founder Andrei Makouski remains in custody. The second co-founder, Aliaksei Karabliou, is in the United States.

On April 9, security forces came to the office of ZROBIM architects. All employees present in the studio — about 50 people — were detained. A Telegram channel close to security forces linked the detentions to Makouski’s social media post, in which he spoke about a letter from state authorities requiring the company to hire an ideologist.

ZROBIM architects is a Belarusian architectural studio founded in 2011 by Andrei Makouski and Aliaksei Karabliou. The company operates both in Belarus and abroad and regularly receives international awards. Last year, a school project in the Novaia Baravaia district of Minsk won the IIDA Global Excellence Award 2025 in the Education category.
