The Investigative Committee has completed its work at the site of the collapse at Mine No. 3 of Belaruskali and has opened a criminal case over a violation of mining safety regulations resulting in a fatality.
On the evening of June 11, at a depth of 620 metres, a salt-concrete barrier collapsed during its construction. A 50-year-old mine support worker was killed. A 34-year-old tractor driver sustained serious injuries, while an 18-year-old student of the Salihorsk Mining and Chemical College who was undergoing practical training at the mine suffered a leg injury. Both were hospitalised.
An investigative task force inspected the scene, questioned witnesses and seized documentation, including records related to compliance with safety regulations and occupational health requirements. Expert examinations have been ordered.
The criminal case was opened under an article covering violations of mining or construction safety regulations resulting in a person’s death through negligence, the Investigative Committee’s press service said.
