Coordination Council Proposes Veranika Stankevich for Social Policy Representative in United Transitional Cabinet

Following a vote, the Belarusian Coordination Council proposed Veranika Stankevich as a candidate for the position of Representative for Social Policy in the United Transitional Cabinet.

Stankevich is a journalist by training. She has experience working in business, political organizations and civil society. Since 2022, she has headed the Volnyja initiative, which supports former Belarusian political prisoners and their families.

Stankevich’s priorities include developing emergency assistance and preventive social policy, preparing for the transition period, and developing long-term reforms for a future democratic Belarus.

One of the first tools in this work is expected to be a map of the social needs and vulnerabilities of Belarusians. It is intended to help identify problems and barriers to accessing social support.

Stankevich says her main principle is to shift from responding to problems after they arise to a systemic and preventive social policy.

Other candidates nominated for the position of the United Transitional Cabinet’s Representative for Social Policy were Tatsiana Lukayanava and Yuliya Mitskevich. The position has remained vacant since Volha Zazulinskaya stepped down.
