Yuliya Mitskevich has been nominated for the position of social policy representative in Belarus’s United Transitional Cabinet. Her candidacy was proposed by a group of nine delegates from different factions of the Coordination Council.
Mitskevich has worked in the United Transitional Cabinet for the past two years. She initially served as deputy social policy representative, overseeing issues related to gender equality and vulnerable groups. For the past month and a half, Mitskevich has been serving as acting social policy representative.
The Coordination Council notes that Mitskevich is familiar with the Cabinet’s internal processes, as well as its rules and standards. She also took part in drafting the Code of Ethics for the Office of the Social Policy Representative.
Mitskevich also has experience in international cooperation and professional contacts in this field. She was a member of the Council of Europe’s Contact Group on Belarus, co-organized the First Women’s Political Forum in Stockholm in 2025 and the “Youth, Gender and Democracy for Belarus” forum in 2026.
Yuliya Mitskevich is a recipient of the 2011 Irish Labour Party Award for Social Justice and the 2025 German Anna Klein Award.
Earlier, the Coordination Council faction “Latushka Coalition and For Freedom Movement” nominated Veranika Stankevich for the position. The faction also called for a hearing on her candidacy at the next general meeting of the Coordination Council and for the issue to be put to a vote.
Earlier, at the “New Belarus” conference, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya proposed that the Coordination Council nominate candidates to the United Transitional Cabinet.
The position of social policy representative in the United Transitional Cabinet has remained vacant since Volha Zazulinskaya left the post.
