Poland’s Minister of Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński expressed confidence that imprisoned journalist Andrzej Poczobut will be released. According to him, the Polish side continues to work toward this goal and will eventually achieve it.
It should be recalled that yesterday Belarus announced the release of 250 political prisoners. Fifteen of them were transferred to Lithuania without documents. The release of Andrzej Poczobut was not reported.
“This exchange is being carried out by our American partners, and we remain in constant contact with them on this matter. That is all we can say about this exchange. However, both our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our special services are working around the clock to secure the release of Andrzej Poczobut from Belarusian captivity. We fully understand that this is not an easy matter, but constant dripping wears away the stone. I am convinced that sooner or later this will happen,” he said on TVP Info on Thursday evening.
The political prisoners were released during the visit to Minsk of US President’s Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale, who also announced further easing of sanctions, including the removal of restrictions on potash companies, two banks, and the Ministry of Finance.
Kierwiński also stressed in the interview that the border with Belarus is securely protected. According to him, there have been only around 100 attempts by migrants to cross it this year, all of which were prevented.
