More than 62,000 passengers travelled on direct commuter trains between Smolensk and the Belarusian cities of Orsha and Vitsyebsk from April to September 2026. The Russian Central Suburban Passenger Company (CPPK) reported the figures, TASS reports.

Around 27,000 passengers travelled on the Smolensk–Orsha route, while more than 35,000 used the service between Smolensk and Vitsyebsk.

RA-3 rail buses operate on the Smolensk–Vitebsk route, while EP3D electric trains serve the Smolensk–Orsha route.

According to Alena Yarokhava, CPPK’s Director of Development, demand for trips to Vitsyebsk is highest at weekends and during the Slavianski Bazaar festival, which takes place in July. Over the three summer months, the company carried 38,000 passengers on this route, including 14,000 in August.

The Smolensk–Vitsyebsk and Smolensk–Orsha routes were launched in April 2026, reducing travel times by more than an hour and a half.
