Communications Ministry Speaks About “White Spots” on Mobile Coverage Map

Belarus’ Ministry of Communications and Informatization plans to actively develop mobile internet. By the end of the current five-year period, it will be possible to clearly determine where “white spots” remain on the mobile coverage map. This was stated in an interview with the newspaper “Respublika” by First Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization Pavel Tkach.

“There are not many of them, according to our estimates. We assessed that around 30,000 of our citizens live in such areas. These are the most remote parts of the country, which are difficult to reach. During the current five-year period, the quality of access to mobile internet along national highways will also improve. The 2025 plan included improving coverage along the M-1 highway, but operators faced objective problems: due to technical constraints, it is very difficult to find locations near the road where a tower could be installed. We are now working on a universal solution that can be scaled along the route,” he said.

According to him, there is also a task to improve coverage along roads marked with the “R” index. This is expected to be implemented closer to 2028. By 2030, LTE coverage is planned to reach 99% of the country’s territory. At the same time, average data transmission speeds in regional centres and Minsk are expected to reach 135 Mbps, in district centres, towns, and urban-type settlements — 110 Mbps. In the rest of the country, speeds of 30 Mbps will be provided.
