The director of the charity foundation “Help for Seriously Ill Children” has been accused of embezzling more than 830,000 rubles.
According to the press service of the Investigative Committee, in 2024 a 28-year-old resident of the capital established the foundation, took the position of director, and “single-handedly controlled the organization’s activities: managed its property, concluded contracts, and carried out all legally significant actions.”
The foundation raised funds for the treatment of seriously ill children.
“Thousands of collectives across the country received letters requesting material assistance, and donation boxes were placed in shopping centers and healthcare institutions,” the press release said.
It is noted that the cash funds were never credited to accounts, and their fate is currently being established by investigators.
According to the Investigative Committee, the accused distorted information about the foundation’s “beneficiaries” on its website, and even after the foundation had already provided assistance, money continued to flow into the suspect’s control.
During the investigation, it was established that the Minsk resident was the founder of three commercial companies registered in his name and also managed a legal entity created by his acquaintance.
In most cases, funds transferred to the foundation’s account were not used for charitable purposes but were spent on operational needs, the purchase and maintenance of vehicles, apartment rent, the acquisition of equipment, and personal household needs. The money was also illegally withdrawn in cash and diverted.
The activities were halted by officers of the Department of Financial Investigations of the State Control Committee for Minsk Region and the city of Minsk. Investigators have now established that the “benefactor” embezzled more than 830,000 rubles.
The suspect is charged under Part 4 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code (embezzlement through abuse of official authority on an especially large scale). He has been taken into custody.
The criminal investigation is ongoing.
