Brazil Seeks to Increase Purchases of Potash Fertilizers From Belarus

Brazil wants to increase purchases of potash fertilizers from Belarus. This was stated by Brazil’s ambassador, Bernard Klingl, following a meeting with Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

“We want not only to continue supplies of Belarusian potash fertilizers to our country, but also to increase them.

We know that Belarusian fertilizers are of very high quality, and in Soligorsk, in our opinion, the best-quality potash fertilizers for us are produced,” he said.

It should be noted that Brazil previously ranked among the main buyers of Belarusian potash. According to Brazilian foreign trade statistics, fertilizer supplies from Belarus were minimal last year. The main sources of potash imports were Russia, Canada, and Israel. At the same time, fertilizers worth $44 million were imported from Belarus in 2024, $349 million in 2023, and $568 million in 2019.

According to data cited by BelTA, trade turnover between Belarus and Brazil in January–November last year amounted to $766 million, increasing by 25 percent. Belarusian exports exceeded $700 million. Supplies to Brazil consist mainly of potash and nitrogen fertilizers, X-ray equipment, linen fabrics, control or measuring instruments, and profile projectors. Imports from Brazil to Belarus mainly include specific goods, coffee, frozen beef, acyclic alcohols, and juices.

Klingl also noted that the meeting discussed supplies of Belarusian agricultural machinery, as well as the creation of assembly facilities. For its part, Brazil is ready to offer Belarus aviation equipment.

“We hope to resume this cooperation. Of course, everything here depends not only on Belarus and Brazil; the overall political context must be taken into account. It seems to us that we will be able to overcome the remaining problems, because we believe that cooperation between Belarus and Embraer will be mutually beneficial. We produce the best aircraft, and Belarus is ready to offer us a very large market — not only Belarus itself, but also the CIS,” he said.

As a reminder, the United States recently eased sanctions against Belavia, although they have not been fully lifted.
