Books, Furniture and Auto Parts: List of Latvian Goods Banned in Belarus Published

A resolution of the Belarusian Council of Ministers No. 526, expanding the list of Latvian goods banned from import and sale in Belarus, was published on the National Legal Internet Portal on October 20. The new restrictions will take effect on December 15, 2026. They will cover canned fish, books, furniture, auto parts and communications equipment.

Reform.news reported on the government’s decision yesterday, October 19. The report concerned a ban on canned fish and various industrial products. The published resolution specifies the goods covered and the date on which the restrictions will take effect.

The document, dated October 17, amends Resolution No. 808 of December 31, 2025, “On the Application of a Special Restrictive Measure.” The decision is justified by Latvia’s “unfriendly actions,” including its ban on importing certain goods.

The list now includes prepared foods and canned products made from salmon, sardinella, sprats and cod, as well as mixtures of vitamins and minerals intended to supplement a balanced diet.

A broad category of printed products is subject to the ban, including books, newspapers, reproductions and other products of the printing industry, manuscripts, typewritten texts and plans. The restriction covers HS code group 49, except for code 4907 00.

Newly listed items include furniture and parts thereof, including seats, wooden frames for paintings and photographs, plastic decorative articles, certain wool blankets and throws, absorbent cotton made from cotton fibres, fishing rods and other fishing equipment.

The industrial additions include auto parts, ball and roller bearings, parts for agricultural machinery, articulated-link chains, metal mesh and fencing, circular saw blades, and cutting blades for woodworking equipment.

The restrictions will also cover certain transformers, data transmission equipment, including routers, antennas, circuit breakers, relays, switches, lamp holders, plugs and sockets. The precise scope of the ban is determined by the relevant HS codes.

The resolution separately adds Latvian dietary supplements to the list of prohibited goods. The original document had provided an exemption for biologically active food supplements.

Goods listed in the resolution that were imported into Belarus before December 15, 2026, may still be sold on the domestic market.
