BelNPP And Driving Licenses. Kuchynski Meets Kondratovič

Dzianis Kuchynski, an adviser to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and head of her office in Lithuania, met with Vladislav Kondratovič, chancellor of Lithuania’s Ministry of Environment and former interior minister.

“The Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya continues to work with Lithuanian state institutions on issues that directly affect Belarusians in Lithuania. The goal of such cooperation is to turn contacts and agreements into practical solutions and opportunities for the Belarusian community,” Kuchynski commented on the meeting.

According to the Office, the sides discussed the safety of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP). Independent monitoring, the participation of Belarusian environmental activists and international oversight of the plant’s safety remain important.

The situation regarding the revision of the list of areas in Belarus contaminated after the Chornobyl disaster was also discussed. This included possible consequences for the social guarantees of residents of settlements that could lose the corresponding status.

Another topic was the participation of Belarusians in Lithuania’s public life, including environmental initiatives, local election campaigns and the work of municipalities.

The issue of driving licenses for Belarusians was also raised. While Kondratovič was still serving as interior minister, the possibility of simplifying the exchange of Belarusian driving licenses for Lithuanian ones was discussed. The proposal is still being developed. The possibility of taking the driving test in Belarusian was also discussed.
