Belarusian Woman Goes Swimming in River on Kola Peninsula, Still Missing

On January 1, a citizen of Belarus went missing during a group ice floating session in the waters of the Tuloma River in Russia’s Murmansk Region. A local department of Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case.

The Investigative Department for the Kola District of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Murmansk Region has initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Provision of Services That Do Not Meet Safety Requirements for Life or Health of Consumers”), the local Investigative Committee’s press service reported.

A report was received by law enforcement agencies on the evening of January 1. The woman, born in 1968, was swept away by the current during group ice floating in the waters of the Tuloma River.

Her whereabouts have not been established to date.

It is reported that the woman is a citizen of Belarus.

Ice floating is a type of winter recreation in which a person floats in icy water (in an ice hole or among ice floes) wearing a special thermal insulating dry suit that is worn over clothing.
