Belarusian Volunteer Miraslau Lazouski Posthumously Named Honorary Citizen Of Rivne

On Aug. 13, deputies of the Rivne City Council posthumously awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen of Rivne” to 201 defenders of Ukraine. Among them was Belarusian volunteer Miraslau Lazouski, Radyjo Svaboda reports.

His name has now been added to the city’s official list of honorary citizens under number 665.

“Lazouski Miraslau Uladzimiravich — a citizen of Ukraine who was killed (died) while defending the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war, and who directly participated in measures to ensure national security and defense and to repel and deter armed aggression against Ukraine,” the list says.

In 2024, Rivne decided to name a street after Miraslau Lazouski.

In the 1990s, Miraslau Lazouski became one of the founders of the “White Legion.” In 2017, he was arrested along with more than three dozen people in the so-called “Patriot Case.” The case was later dropped. In 2020, Miraslau Lazouski moved to Ukraine, where he joined the ranks of Belarusian volunteers. He fought in the Kalinoŭski Regiment under the call sign “Mysh.”

Lazouski was killed in Bakhmut in May 2023. He was leading the evacuation of a group of battalion “Volat” fighters who were trapped in one of the buildings under Russian artillery fire. Four people were killed in the strike. Several other fighters, including former leader of the “Young Front” Dzianis Urbanovich, were rescued.

Lazouski covered the evacuation and was the last to leave. He was unable to reach shelter, which was several dozen meters away, and was killed. His body was recovered from the combat zone and buried in Kyiv. The bodies of the four people killed who remained in the destroyed building could not be recovered.

In March 2023, Miraslau and 21 other Kalinoŭski Regiment fighters received the BNR Medal for Military Merit. In June of the same year, the Rada of the BNR posthumously awarded Lazouski the Order of the Iron Knight.
