Belarusian Riot Police Received About $7 Million in Bonuses in 2020 — Losik

From August 9 to December 1, 2020, members of the OMON riot police received about $7 million in additional payments. This information comes from the case of former political prisoner Ihar Losik.

“After my pardon, I still have a lawsuit from the Prosecutor General’s Office for about seven million dollars — roughly 22 to 25 million Belarusian rubles.

This is the amount that, from August 9 to December 1, was paid to OMON officers from the state budget as bonuses and overtime when they were diligently beating people. And now I am supposed to return it to the budget. There is also another claim for broken handcuffs, used stun grenades, and so on,” Losik wrote on Facebook.

Losik was detained on June 25, 2020, before the presidential election and the subsequent protests. In December 2021, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of organizing public disorder and preparing mass unrest. He was released on September 11, 2025, and taken to Lithuania.
