Passenger trains on the Kaliningrad route are delayed due to the derailment of freight wagons on Lithuanian Railways, Belarusian Railways reported.

The delays have affected five trains: No. 360 Kaliningrad–Adler, No. 148 Kaliningrad–Moscow, No. 147 Moscow–Kaliningrad, No. 79 Saint Petersburg–Kaliningrad, and No. 29 Moscow–Kaliningrad. On the Belarusian Railways network, delays range from 30 minutes to five hours.

Passengers on trains No. 29, No. 79 and No. 147 are being provided with drinking water and food at the Maladzechna and Hudahai stations. Medical assistance and technical servicing of rolling stock are also being provided.

A group of Minsk–Moscow carriages that had been part of train No. 148 departed on May 3 as a separate train No. 248 Minsk–Moscow at 09:49, with arrival in Moscow scheduled for 19:44.

For additional information, passengers can contact the Belarusian Railways call centre at 105.

The accident occurred at around 23:00 on Saturday in the Kaunas district of Lithuania, in the village of Vingyte. A locomotive and four freight wagons of a train travelling from Duisburg derailed. Some of the wagons were carrying methanol; however, according to the Lithuanian side, no hazardous substances were released into the environment. The incident blocked two adjacent 1,520 mm gauge tracks, disrupting traffic towards Kybartai and Marijampolė. Recovery work is ongoing.
