Belarus’ Interior Ministry said it has introduced additional security measures for Independence Day celebrations. According to the ministry, Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakou ordered police personnel and internal troops to be placed on heightened alert.
Venues hosting public events will be monitored using the national public security monitoring system, while additional security measures will also apply to transport facilities and other locations where large numbers of people are expected to gather.
Security checkpoints with personal and baggage screening will be set up at the entrances to celebration venues. Separate checkpoints will be available for elderly people, people with disabilities and families with children. People carrying prohibited items, accompanied by animals, or travelling on bicycles or personal mobility devices will not be allowed into the secured areas.
The Interior Ministry also warned of possible traffic restrictions and changes to public transport routes and advised people to plan their journeys in advance.
The ministry urged the public to report unattended items or suspicious individuals.
