A Belarusian citizen had €5,000 confiscated at the border with Lithuania. According to the State Customs Committee, the man was traveling from Lithuania in a FIAT car through the Benyakoni checkpoint.
During an oral interview, he told a customs officer that he was carrying €5,500 and BYN 200. The customs officer doubted the traveler’s statement and was proven right. The man had a pack of wet wipes in his bag, with another €5,000 hidden inside.
The concealed cash was confiscated. Administrative proceedings have been launched.
It is worth recalling that cash totaling no more than the equivalent of $10,000 can be transported across the border without declaration.
