Belarus’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Lithuanian Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Erikas Vilkanecas and issued what it described as a “strong protest” over what it called another violation of Belarusian airspace by a drone arriving from Lithuanian territory.
According to Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ruslan Varankou, on May 17 a Ukrainian Chaika drone, allegedly heading toward Russian territory to carry out strikes, was detected near the village of Stanislaŭtsy in Dokshitsy District of Vitsyebsk Region. Belarus accused Lithuania of failing to prevent the military drone from crossing its territory and of not notifying the Belarusian Armed Forces in a timely manner.
“These actions constitute a direct threat to the security of the Republic of Belarus and represent a gross violation of international law,” the ministry said.
Belarus demanded that Lithuania investigate the incident, immediately provide detailed information about the circumstances and take comprehensive measures to prevent similar cases in the future.
