Belarusian Foreign Ministry Hands Protest Note to Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires Over Bus Incident

Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires in Belarus, Ivan Novytskyi, was summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry today and handed a note of protest. The announcement was made by Foreign Ministry spokesman Ruslan Varankou.

“Today, Ivan Novytskyi, Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine in the Republic of Belarus, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus. He was handed a note of protest in connection with an attack carried out by a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle on June 17, 2026, in Russia’s Bryansk region against a civilian bus transporting Belarusian citizens, primarily children,” he said.

The Belarusian side demanded a comprehensive explanation from Ukraine and called for an investigation.

“The Ukrainian side was informed that, as a result of this horrific crime, a Belarusian citizen was killed and six others, including five children, were injured, some of them seriously.

The Republic of Belarus strongly condemns this inhumane terrorist act, for which there is and can be no justification.

The Belarusian side demanded that the Ukrainian side provide a comprehensive explanation of the incident, conduct an immediate and objective investigation, and provide information on bringing all those responsible to the strictest possible accountability.

Belarus will continue to take all necessary measures to protect the lives and security of its citizens and reserves the right to take appropriate action with regard to the Ukrainian side,” Varankou said.
