Belarusian Driver Fined in Poland for Taking Too Little Rest

A Belarusian long-haul truck driver has been fined in Poland for violating work and rest time regulations, the Polish Road Transport Inspection reported.

The truck, driven by the Belarusian national, was stopped on May 28 on a route near the town of Mszczonów. The driver was transporting cargo from Italy to Poland. Road Transport Inspection officers found no irregularities in the transport documents, but questions arose regarding data from the tachograph and the driver’s card.

Inspectors identified three cases of reduced weekly rest periods: in two instances by nearly 21 hours and in one instance by nearly 20 hours. They also found that over a period of 57 days, the driver exceeded the maximum permitted driving time without a mandatory break on four occasions. In addition, he failed to manually enter required data on his driver’s card.

The driver was fined 6,100 zlotys. Penalties are also expected for the Lithuanian transport company that owns the truck and for the employee responsible for organising transport operations within the company.
