Belarusian Customs Strengthen Border Checkpoints Ahead of Long Weekend

Ahead of Radonitsa, Belarusian customs authorities have strengthened operations at border checkpoints by organizing additional workstations and increasing the number of staff on duty shifts. In the run-up to the holiday weekend, the number of people wishing to leave the country has risen significantly on the Belarusian-Polish border, as Belarusians traditionally travel abroad during these days to visit relatives and burial sites.

The heaviest traffic is at the Brest checkpoint, where around 900 passenger cars were waiting in line today.

The State Customs Committee complained about limited processing capacity on the Polish side. According to the agency’s statement, Poland is accepting only 30–40% of the possible 1,700 passenger cars per day in one direction.

It is currently possible to travel to European Union countries by passenger car through six checkpoints: on the Latvian border — Hryharoushchyna, on the Lithuanian border — Kamenny Loh and Benyakoni, and on the Polish border — Berastavitsa, Bruzgi, and Brest.
