A Belarusian citizen has returned home after being held unlawfully in Myanmar, the Belarusian Embassy in Vietnam said.
According to the embassy, the woman’s return was made possible through cooperation with Myanmar’s Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She traveled back to Belarus via Thailand.
“In coordination with the Thai law enforcement authorities and with the direct participation of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus in Bangkok, Koranun Sukonritikorn, the safety of the Belarusian citizen was ensured during her transit through the Kingdom of Thailand. The embassy expresses its sincere gratitude to everyone involved,” the embassy added.
Judging by the diplomatic mission’s statement, the Belarusian citizen may have ended up in one of the cyber fraud centers operating from Myanmar.
“The situation in the region covered by the embassy, including Myanmar, remains challenging. To avoid situations that may threaten your health and life, we recommend exercising responsibility and caution when considering offers of ‘easy money’ and employment,” the embassy warned.
