https://reform.news/en/belarusian-car-market-contracts-in-september-after-record-august/A total of 9,700 new cars were sold in Belarus in September, the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA) reported. Compared with the record high in August, the market contracted by 5%.
At the same time, sales significantly exceeded those recorded in September last year, rising by 72%.
“September’s decline should be viewed as a correction following August’s strong performance rather than a reversal of the market trend. Despite the month-on-month decrease, sales remain high and significantly exceed September last year’s figures,” the BAA said.
Another feature of September was a 13% decline in electric vehicle sales compared with August, to 3,300 units. The BAA attributes this trend to the exhaustion of duty-free import quotas for electric vehicles. However, other incentives will continue to support electric vehicle sales, including a VAT exemption and a reduced recycling fee.
The BelGee X50+ remained the market leader in September, with nearly 2,000 vehicles sold during the month. The model has retained its leading position for the third consecutive month.
In the electric vehicle segment, the Geely EX2 led sales, with nearly 1,000 vehicles sold during the month.
