The transport ministries of Belarus and Russia will create a working group to consider the legal and technical aspects of implementing a high-speed rail link project.
This was announced by the Belarusian ministry’s press service following a meeting between ministers Aliaksei Lyakhnovich and Andrei Nikitin.
The two sides also discussed the creation of an alternative tachograph system, including within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Construction of high-speed rail lines in Russia was announced several years ago. One of them was supposed to connect Moscow and Minsk. In Belarus, there were proposals to extend it to Brest. For now, Russia is implementing a project to build a line between Moscow and St Petersburg, which is expected to become operational in 2028-2029. The line to Minsk is only fourth in the construction queue.
