Belarus to Tighten Taxi Oversight From October 1

From October 1 to 9, preventive measures to monitor taxis will be carried out across Belarus. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the campaign aims to improve passenger transport safety and reduce the severity of road accident consequences.

Traffic police inspectors will identify serious traffic violations, including driving under the influence, driving without a licence, speeding and violations of manoeuvring rules. To this end, law enforcement officers intend to use the capabilities of the national public security monitoring system.

The traffic police will also check compliance with passenger transport requirements and the technical condition of taxis. If violations are identified, the heads of the relevant organisations will be held administratively liable.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 67 road accidents involving taxis have been registered since the beginning of the year, leaving 74 people with injuries of varying severity.
