Belarus’ Prosecutor General’s Office has asked Poland’s Ministry of Justice to extradite Mahiliou journalist Dzmitry Salauyou, MAYDAY.TEAM reports.
According to the request from the Prosecutor General’s Office, Salauyou is accused of “conspiracy or other acts committed with the aim of seizing power by unconstitutional means” (Part 1, Article 357 of the Criminal Code). It was previously reported that the journalist had also been charged under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code (“Creating an extremist formation or participating in one, leading such a formation or one of its subdivisions, or becoming a member of it”).
The journalist consulted the Polish prosecution authorities regarding the situation. According to him, they understand the circumstances, and there will be no extradition proceedings.
Dzmitry Salauyou was the editor-in-chief of the “Mahiliou region” (6tv.by) website, which was designated an “extremist formation” in 2023. He left Belarus in 2021.
