In connection with the incident at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations are continuously monitoring the radiation situation in the Braslaw district of the Vitsyebsk region. According to the agency, no exceedances of control radiation levels have been recorded.
The Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations informed the Lithuanian side of its readiness to provide necessary assistance in eliminating the consequences of the incident and also requested information about the emergency at the nuclear facility in order to take comprehensive safety measures. The proposal was made in accordance with the Agreement between the Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations and Lithuania’s State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate on prompt notification of a nuclear accident and the exchange of information on nuclear installations and nuclear activities through established communication channels.
“At the moment, no response has been received from the Lithuanian side,” the Belarusian agency’s press service said.
It should be recalled that on 25 November a fire occurred at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant in Lithuania, in the facility for primary processing of radioactive waste. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 17:40 Belarus time (16:40 Lithuanian time). The fire was contained at 18:05 and fully extinguished at 20:07. It was reported that there was no radiological damage to the environment or the population. No casualties were reported.
