Belarus’ Goods Trade Deficit Exceeded $3.4 Billion in January–August

Belarus’ goods trade deficit amounted to $3.43 billion in January–August, increasing by $387.9 million in August. However, compared with January–August last year, the deficit narrowed by 1.4%. The data were published by the National Statistical Committee of Belarus.

Belarusian goods exports rose by 22.4% in January–August to $32.3 billion. Goods imports increased by 19.7% to $35.74 billion.

In trade with CIS countries, exports rose by 22.6% in January–August to $23.48 billion, while imports increased by 20.8% to $20.83 billion. The trade surplus with Commonwealth countries amounted to $2.65 billion, up 38.6% from the same period last year.

In trade with countries outside the CIS over the same period, exports rose by 22% to $8.82 billion, while imports increased by 18% to $14.9 billion. The trade deficit with countries outside the CIS grew by 12.8% in January–August to $6.09 billion.

Belarusian goods exports rose by 18.1% in August to $4.12 billion. Goods imports increased by 22% to $4.5 billion.

In August, exports to CIS countries rose by 19% to $3.04 billion, while imports increased by 25.6% to $26.3 billion. The trade surplus with CIS countries amounted to $408.6 million in August, 11.1% lower than in the same period last year.

In trade with countries outside the CIS, exports rose by 15.9% in August to $1.09 billion, while imports increased by 17.2% to $1.88 billion. The trade deficit with countries outside the CIS grew by 19.1% in August to $796.7 million.
