Belstat has published data on foreign trade in goods for January-July. Belarus’ foreign trade deficit in goods exceeded $3 billion by the end of July, although it was lower than a year earlier.
In January-July, exports of Belarusian goods increased by 22.9% to $28.14 billion, while imports of goods from abroad rose by 19.3% over the same period to $31.22 billion. As a result, the foreign trade deficit amounted to $3.08 billion in the first seven months, 5.9% less than a year earlier.
In trade with CIS countries, Belarusian exports increased by 23% to $20.42 billion, while imports rose by 20.2% to $18.2 billion. The trade surplus with CIS countries amounted to $2.22 billion, up 52.7% from a year earlier.
In trade with countries outside the CIS, Belarusian exports increased by 22.6% to $7.72 billion in January-July, while imports rose by 18.1% to $13.02 billion. As a result, the trade deficit with these countries amounted to $5.3 billion, 12.1% more than a year earlier.
In July, Belarusian exports overall increased by 21.7% year-on-year to $4.4 billion. Imports rose by 17.9% to $4.69 billion. The foreign trade deficit in goods amounted to $290.1 million, 20.3% less than a year earlier.
In trade with CIS countries in July, exports increased by 27.6% to $3.35 billion, while imports rose by 17.2% to $2.66 billion. The trade surplus with CIS countries amounted to $689.5 million in July, almost twice the figure recorded in July last year.
In trade with countries outside the CIS, exports increased by 6.2% in July to $1.05 billion. Imports rose by 18.8% to $2.03 billion. The trade deficit for July amounted to $979.6 million, 36.3% more than a year earlier.
