Belarus and Mozambique plan to involve the Development Bank of Belarus in financing projects in Mozambique. The issue was discussed during the visit of Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou to Mozambique at a meeting with Mozambique’s Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries Roberto Mito Albino on July 17.
According to Albino, the main obstacle to implementing joint initiatives had until now been the lack of a financial mechanism, the Mozambican Ministry of Agriculture reported.
“We lacked a financial instrument that would allow this cooperation to be put into practice. This visit has provided a financial solution, and from now on technical teams from Mozambique and Belarus will work together to prepare a proposal for the Development Bank of Belarus,” he said.
He added that the partnership would include agreeing on a financial package, signing financing agreements and implementing joint projects.
Mozambique’s agriculture minister said that one of the priorities for cooperation was the supply of Mozambican value-added agricultural products to Belarus, primarily almonds and fruit.
The Mozambican side also invited Belarusian companies to invest in the country.
“There are many opportunities here for Belarusian companies to export their products and invest in Mozambique,” Albino said.
Mozambique has also offered Belarus the opportunity to use the country’s logistics capabilities to access the markets of the Southern African Development Community. Mozambique is also seeking cooperation in the modernisation of its agriculture.
