The Belarusian Foreign Ministry summoned Lithuania’s chargé d’affaires Erikas Vilkanecas on 1 December. He was issued a protest “in connection with the violation of the state border of Belarus by an unmanned aerial vehicle of the aircraft type.”
According to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, the drone “crossed the border on 30 November from Lithuania’s Lazdijai district and fell in Hrodna.”
“Analysis of the wreckage, including video and navigation data, showed that the route of the Western European UAV provided for a flight over Belarus, entry into Poland and a return to the launch point in Lithuania. Minsk considers the incident a deliberate provocation,” the ministry said.
Belarus demands that Lithuania provide detailed information about the incident, conduct an investigation and hold those responsible to account, and take measures to prevent similar cases.
“Belarus reserves the right to take necessary measures to protect its sovereignty,” the Foreign Ministry said.
