Bear Inspects Latvia-Belarus Border

A bear approached a section of the Latvia-Belarus border near the village of Kaplava last week. The animal was captured on surveillance cameras operated by Latvian border guards.

The bear came up to the fence on the Latvian side, dug in the ground for a while, then stood on its hind legs and, after assessing the height of the barrier, abandoned any attempt to cross into Belarus. It then calmly walked along the road beside the fence.
